Review of Hope by Chelmsford Rocks

Artist: Greg Kiss & the Feral Cats

Title: Hope

A CD from the lead singer of 4ft Pimp, who if you read my reviews you will know I like very much. This album has a lot of the Pimps hard rock tinges but also is more mellow in places using a variety of musical influences, from the rocking "Tripped and Fell" (Typical Pimp) to the Country styled "This Time."

There is a great diversity of music on here with acoustic tracks such as "The five of Diamonds" and the spooky "Something isn't Right." This is a superb CD which I can't recommend highly enough. Great song writing and playing, Greg has a good rock and roll voice and has surrounded himself with some great musicians.

The whole LP is good but stand out tracks for me are "Sickened," "Something isn't right," the atmospheric "Little" and my favourite; the title track "Hope." This is how a good record should be; slow starting with a fast bit in the middle. I may not be a muso but I know what I like and this is it.

Review of Holy Matrimony by The Dukester

From the rock n' roll 4ft Pimp frontman, sending an acoustic CD to me is very brave. But I suppose I'm getting mellow in my old age, cos this strangely brought back memories of Guns N' Roses' acoustic tracks from 'Lies' or Metallica's "Mama Said". Heartfelt but not without hitting that damn guitar like it was the reason for your woes, then caressing it begging for forgiveness afterwards. It sounds like being in a lonely club with the guy. Yes, this sounds like all the other times a big rock band wrote some acoustic tracks with a super production. And it works. Very cool.

Review of Holy Matrimony by The Southend Echo

In search of the killer hook

THE BAND: Solo artist Greg Kiss, who also morphs into 4ft Pimp front man from time to time.

THE REVIEWERS: Simon Davies is a musician who owns and runs Big Noise Studios in Southend. Simon is a member of the Music Producers Guild and toured Europe with his band, Speedometer. Chris Turner is a composer and actor. He is signed to Warner bros., has written top ten chart hits, managed artists and has written a book.

THE VERDICT: Greg’s music is very much akin to the sound of Richard Ashcroft and Cat Stevens at his finest (Tea for the Tillerman LP).

He has a very confident delivery on this CD with an excellent tone and good control over his voice, particularly in the upper register. Any suggestion of arrangement, however, is muted by the fact that this CD is just acoustic guitar and vocal.

Also, the keys of the songs are very similar which doesn’t allow their full potential to emerge.

Having said this, the promise and scope in the songs is unmistakable and you feel that the killer hook is just around the corner.
